I started in the motor business in 1955. My first job was with Dermot Ryan in Hawkins Street and then Linders of Smithfield.
In June 1960 I started my own company with Tom Murphy Snr. and so began the now famous “Murphy and Gunn” which was and still is standing in Rathgar.

We also diverted into leasing cars in 1967 and in 1977 I sold out to the Murphy family and in goodwill the name has remained as it was and still is today.

On the 1st of May, 1978, the “Cranford Centre” was formed which almost became a landmark on the old Stillorgan Road as a car showroom on two floors which was unheard of in ireland at the time.

The name was enough to cater for anyone who wanted to purchase the best of the best in either new or previously owned.
My hands on approach is still the way it’s done today.

In 1991 the decision was made to sell Cranford and take a sabbatical which lasted all of 5 years and since then I’ve traded as myself. Now in the digital era I am embracing the internet with charliegunncars.ie.
